THE STAR SCOOP:Simon Curtis
Tell us about your role in the upcoming movie, Spectacular.

SIMON CURTIS:
Learning choreography, singing, work shopping…it was relentless. By the end of the process, I was getting sick because I was so run down. My nerves had been totally shot because it was such a big deal to me, because it was so intensive. It was definitely an insane process to get the role. By the time I booked it, I booked it on my birthday. I was born on March 18th. I got the call from the director on my birthday, so it was quite possibly the best birthday present I’ll ever receive. It was kind of fitting. The character, his name is Royce, his nickname is Show Boy, and that’s exactly what he is. He’s the quintessential show boy, always searching for the spotlight. He kind of gets in trouble, the downfall of his character…he just relentlessly searches for the spotlight, and he ends up kind of being a jerk because of it.

THE STAR SCOOP:
For the readers, tell us more about the movie.

SIMON CURTIS:
The movie is about this wannabe high school rocker, named Nikko, and he gets kicked out of his band at the same time Courtney, who is a total show choir nerd, has just lost her show choir male lead singer, her boyfriend, my character Royce. He’s jumping ship for a rival show choir and is now the boyfriend of Courtney’s rival, Tammi, who is played by Victoria Justice. So basically Nikko reluctantly joins Spectacular, Courtney’s show choir after she bribes him. It’s full of misfit kids, [who] kind of find their inner coolness.

THE STAR SCOOP:
It’s a Nickelodeon made for TV original movie. Will it appeal to people beyond the Nick audience?

SIMON CURTIS:
Yeah, most certainly. I’ve seen the movie a couple times now, and it does transcend that kid movie genre. The movie is very well written, and very well acted by all the cast. Everybody does such a great job. The costume designer won an academy award for designing costumes for Moulin Rouge. Our choreographer is one of Britney and Madonna’s choreographers. It was nothing but top-notch people. Nickelodeon really spared no expense making this, and it really shows. The movie has a lot of humor in it. It’s fitting for kids, and adults are gonna laugh at it to. All in all, it’s a really good story with an awesome soundtrack that I can definitely see older teens and adults latching on to.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What should people expect from it?

SIMON CURTIS:
Well, I mean, it has an amazing soundtrack. It’s so much fun. It’s vibrant, it’s a great story. It’s hilarious. At the end of the day, it’s a good movie. I think kids don’t have a lot to choose from as far as actual quality entertainment these days, and it really is. It’s high quality entertainment.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What are some other projects you are involved in?

SIMON CURTIS:
I sing pop music. I’ve done that for years and years. I’m looking forward to – hopefully Spectacular will be big enough that it can open doors for me in the music realm as well, because it’s a huge passion of mine. It’s something that I definitely have my sights set on as far as career goals are concerned. As far as acting goes, since I’ve been back, I’ve been auditioning, taking meetings, trying to get that next project lined up. It’s a matter of selecting the right project. That’s kind of where I’m at right now with everything.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about your musical style?

SIMON CURTIS:
I have a very clear direction of what I want to do and what I want to accomplish. I’ve always loved pop music. It’s what I grew up on, it’s what I live for. It’s just something that I love. I love Swedish produced pop music. I love Europop. I love electronic pop. I love Britney, Justin, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Janet, all the big, huge pop stars. That’s the kind of music that I want to do. I want to do the big world tours. I love the mold of pop music and what that entails. That’s what I want to do!

THE STAR SCOOP:
For your fans, what do you want to say?

SIMON CURTIS:
Well, I definitely hope they check out Spectacular. I hope they keep their eyes open for me and the cast and all of our future stars, because I’m very proud of what we accomplished there. I definitely think each one of us has something in store for us as well. Just getting to know those people and knowing what they’re all capable of, I would definitely ask the readers to keep their eyes peeled. Check out my myspace at www.myspace.com/simoncurtismusic.
